How to Vote
What members should
know about this election
When and how will the election be held?
The 2026 elections for the UAW International Executive Board will be held in the fall, with the exact dates to be announced by the court-appointed monitor overseeing the election. Like the previous election in 2022, all eligible active and retired UAW members will have the opportunity to vote by mail.
Who can vote and who are we voting for?
All UAW members, active and retired, can vote in the elections for the officers of the International Executive Board. As a member, you will vote for one candidate for President, one for Secretary-Treasurer, three for Vice President, and one for your Regional Director. Brandon Mancilla is running to serve a second term as Region 9A Director.
How can I ensure that I will receive my ballot at my current address?
There are two actions you can take to ensure you receive a ballot at your current address. First, make sure to confirm your address with your local union. Second, update your contact information with the UAW Membership Department at myinfo.uaw.org.
What is the role of the Regional Director?
There are nine regions in the UAW, each of which has its own Regional Director. The Regional Director serves as the UAW International’s main point of contact and representative for the region’s members and locals. The Regional Director is also responsible for carrying out the International’s program at a regional level including organizing, contract campaigns, education, political action, and more.
As a member of the UAW International Executive Board, the Regional Director makes decisions regarding day-to-day operations of the union. Thus, the role is of crucial importance to ensure that organizing and decisions of the union at both the local and international level happen transparently, democratically, and with membership engagement.
Where is Region 9A?
The UAW is divided into 9 distinct regions for the purpose of organizing members. Region 9A consists of Puerto Rico, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and the Capital District. Our region is made up of a diverse group of workers from many different sectors, including academic workers, legal services attorneys and staff, auto technicians, gaming service workers, cafeteria employees, museum and cultural workers, and more.
If you’re not sure which region you’re located in, you can reach out to your local union to confirm.
What does One Member One Vote mean?
As a result of the consent decree between the federal government and the UAW—following the corruption probe that led to the indictment and criminal convictions of many past UAW leaders—our union was required to hold the “One Member, One Vote” referendum on whether members would like to continue the system of electing International leadership through delegates, or to directly elect ourselves the members of our International Executive Board.
In a union-wide referendum in 2021, UAW members overwhelmingly voted for the right to vote for our leadership, which Brandon strongly supported and campaigned for. The 2022 IEB elections were the first time UAW members voted directly for our International UAW President, Secretary-Treasurer, three Vice Presidents, and their Regional Director. This year is only the second-ever One Member One Vote election in the UAW.
Brandon supports protecting democratic reform in the UAW by updating the UAW Constitution to reflect and secure One Member One Vote into the future.
